Acai Berry Juice Health Benefits

The Acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) is often reffered to as a superfood because it’s nutritionally dense and has powerful antioxident qualities and wonderful health benefits. But what are the health benefits of acai juice alone?

The Acai berry fruit ounce for ounce is nutritionally dense with vitamins and antioxidents when compared to other foods. And antioxidents as we all know helps to reduce the damage that oxygen free radicals and the stress of everyday life brings, thus slowing the aging process. Therefore it’s often mentioned in the same breath as “anti-aging”. Of course, antioxidents are found in many foods, but Acai happens to provide it in abundance.

Essential fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6 and 9 are also in abundance, the body uses them to metabolize foods and fats better and is essential for the body to function properly. The Acai fruit is also high in dietary fiber which many people don’t get enough of. Fiber isn’t absorbed by the body, but has a cholesterol lowering effect. And it helps by helping the body to get rid of excess cholesterol and food, ths not only improving health, but helping to manage excess weight which can have significant health benefits.

That being said the health benefits of Acai juice may be somewhat further diminished by pastuerization. While it’s still heathier than most commercial drinks the heating while pastuerizing will destroy some of the nutrients.

The Acai berry juice found on supermarket shelves tend to be “blends” that’s not as healthy as some brands found in health food stores because it has added suger (corn syrup, fructose, sucrase, etc.) or other added ingredients to make it more palletable. Acai tends to be “tangy” or slightly sour and the taste needs to be aqquired. The brand that I use is from a frozen concentrate with no added sugars and usually found in health food stores. Supplements and powders tend to retain more of the nutrients and the effects more nutritional and healthy depending on how it’s manufactured.

Is the Acai berry a miracle food? Probably not. I mean it won’t miraculously make serious health problems magically disappear or extra weight to amazingly “melt” away, and if that’s what you’re expecting then be prepared to be disappointed. However, when combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet, and taken as a “preventative” in addition to what you normally do it can only promote and enhance good health and a healthy body.
